Routes and maps
- Question
- Can a reliable route be recovered from many noisy GPS traces and checked against the path network?
- Status
- Working pipeline. One comparison against an official surveyed line so far.
Hiking and walking routes built from noisy data, and the routing that runs on them.
- Canonical routes and traffic-weighted variants synthesised from many crowd-sourced GPS traces by overlap bundling and consensus centrelines, cross-checked against OpenStreetMap. Snapping to the path network with surface and difficulty attributes, stage splitting, and 3D flyover rendering.
- Compared with one official surveyed line, the consensus line stayed within a median of two metres on the shared trail.
- A pedestrian routing stack with one engine per country, a custom walking rule, edge-level zone marks so that a planned leg equals a built leg, orienteering-based tour composition (OR-Tools), and line-of-sight checks against national surface models.
